Context of role: Citizens Advice Rotherham is a growing organisation, undergoing fundamental changes to the way we give advice. We have ambitions to ensure that we are an example of excellence, both in our national organisation and to the Third Sector. We are looking for a Training Supervisor with passion, drive and commitment to help us achieve these challenging goals.

We want to recruit a fantastic candidate, who doesn’t necessarily need a background at Citizens Advice or even the charitable sector. Instead, the most important requirement is demonstrable experience of motivating and supporting the development of others.

We have an incredible team of volunteers, and owe it to them and our clients to find somebody who is enthusiastic and passionate about people. A candidate who will deliver a well-planned training programme, and work alongside the Partnership & Development Manager to ensure that our high standards are achieved by the committed staff and volunteers, who undertake our training programme.

As we change the way in which we give advice, we also need our training to adapt to ensure that our telephone, webchat and traditional face to face channels are all staffed by confident and knowledgeable volunteers.

Main purpose of role:

  1. Responsible for ensuring volunteers are supported to use our online training system
  2. Ensure every trainee volunteer has an agreed development plan, they each understand what is expected of them when they are in the office and are therefore able to maintain agreed progress, working from home via online learning resources and in the office on interview experience.
  3. Monitor progress, provide support and feedback to all trainee volunteers.
  4. Collaborate with our Advice Session Supervisor team to ensure subject specific learning is put into practice by way of booked interviews and quality of advice assessed.
  5. Report on development progress and determine when to recommend that a trainee is ready to progress.
  6. Track volunteer attendance and progress, and report to line manager.
  7. Deliver subject specific training workshops.
  8. Keep up to date with legislative and policy changes.
  9. Other reasonable work requests.

Essential person specification:

  1. Experience of people management; including training, developing and motivating people.
  2. Current or recent experience of working in a customer service environment and dealing with the public.
  3. Proven ability to communicate effectively in person and in writing.
  4. The ability to work and communicate effectively in a team setting.
  5. Ability to support the work of the Citizens Advice service, through an understanding of the challenges faced by local people and the importance of them being able to access free, confidential, impartial and independent advice.
  6. The ability to commit and to work within the aims, principles and policies of the Citizens Advice service.

Closing date: 09.00 Monday 16th October

Interview date: Friday 20th or  Monday 23rd October
